ZDoom Wars

A ridiculous air-battle on Valley. If you can’t make sense of what you’re looking at, don’t even try and imagine what it SOUNDED like. DAKKADAKKADAKKAKABOOOOM

ZDoom Wars was/is a mod for Doom 2 that I created. Firstly, let me just say that ZDoom is a source port for the original Doom and its derivatives (Doom 2, Heretic, Hexen, etc.), which can be downloaded at ZDoom.org.

This wad, however, requires Skulltag, a multiplayer-focused branch of ZDoom, which can be downloaded at skulltag.com

ZDoom Wars does, howver, require the latest beta version of Skulltag, which can be downloaded at skulltag.net. Long story on why there are two Skulltag domains.

All of these require the IWAD file of the desired game to use (in this case, Doom 2). Basically, you’ve gotta own Doom, but seriously, you already should.

This page on the ZDoom wiki best summarizes what ZDoom Wars is:

Basically, instead of weapons, you have constantly generating mana with which you summon monsters into huge armies and direct them against your foes. Killing the enemy player himself is the goal, but being weaponless, you must use your monsters to do so, which means you have to be a better commander and defeat his armies, run him to ground, and then murder him savagely.

This old thing linked to below was where I would post about the progress on the wad. It’s inactive now, but there are still some downloads and historical info available:

A new team of people now run ZDoom Wars, and you can download it by accessing a server which is using ZDoom Wars (referred to now as ZDoom Wars I) on Doomseeker (a server browser that comes with Skulltag), or at the link provided above.

A game of ZDoom Wars can take up to and beyond an HOUR of constant DAKKADAKKADAKKA. Oooor, someone could screw up and get blasted within 3 minutes. It’s volatile, and I admit that it’s totally cool to watch. There are videos of it all over Youtube.

I spent about 2 1/2 years working on it before moving on. Good memories. Blood for the Blood God.
